Experience the energy and creativity of Combo I, Western Illinois University’s premier small jazz ensemble. Directed by Dr. George Turner, the group features some of WIU’s top student musicians performing an exciting mix of jazz standards, selections from the Great American Songbook, Brazilian music, and original compositions and arrangements created by members of the ensemble. Guided by WIU jazz faculty and mentored by professional jazz artists, Combo I performs regularly throughout the region and at university events, showcasing the artistry, improvisation, and collaboration that define jazz. Recognized for their outstanding musicianship, these talented performers represent the next generation of jazz artists, with alumni continuing their studies at nationally recognized graduate jazz programs across the country. The WIU Jazz Combos bring fresh interpretations, exciting solos, and the next generation of jazz talent to the Al Sears Music Fest.
Bring your family, invite your friends, and celebrate Al Sears and Macomb’s unique place in American music history. Enjoy delicious meals from Sandra’s Authentic Mexican Food Truck, available both Saturday and Sunday.
